The Midnight Club, a Novel by James Patterson

The full team Narcotics detectives assembled to seize Alexander St-Germain called the Grave Dancer; the man who had been Stef’s obsession during the past twenty – two months. Detective Stefanovitch regularly got the most important narcotics cases in the NYPD. He was talented. He lived with his wife. With Anna, Stef had a way of doing wonderfully romantic things. He had become a master of unexpected: a dozen American roses arriving at the school where his wife thought fourth grade.  For few past years he had been the department’s “big play” man.  That night, his Narcotics detectives were breaking the street law. They were striking a major St-Germain drug factory inside the U.S.

The blast scattered the vertebrae on the left of Stefanovitch’s spinal column. One final shot, point-blank into John Stefanovitch’s back. Then the Grave Dancer walked away from his supposed pursuer. The Grave Dancer followed a black man inside the apartment building. Alexander St-Germain rang the bell and a woman’s voice came from inside. Anna Stefanovitch was dead before she hit the floor inside the foyer. Alex left the apartment building as confidently as he had arrived. At three in the afternoon, New York undercover detective Parker was still wearing the Orange Julius T-shirt and his stained juice-stand apron.

The strange outfit made him seemed like a regular New York workingman. It made him like part of the gritty neighborhood in southern Harlem. In a luxury hotel room, the door was flung open and a man holding a machine-gun pistol rushed inside. It blasted nearly ripped off the head of Alexander St-Germain. The shocked European crime boss was thrown. The two call girls were obviously surprised by the wheelchair, but also by the good- looking and virile man sitting in it – at the question-and answer session about their last minutes in that room with Alex.

Someone had gotten to the Grave Dancer before him. Stef stared at the remains of Alex, who wore million dollar diamond ring. Stef leaned forward and spit onto St-Germain’s bloodied corpse. At thirty-five years old, Isiah Parker just killed Oliver Barnwell in the bathroom of a club. Barnwell’s group was the most territorial New York’s narcotics gangs. They controlled Harlem, Bedford-Stuyvesant, most of SoHo. Supposedly, Barnwell had been linked to Alex, to the sprawling syndicate currently invading the U.S. It’s the Midnight Club.

A successful writer, Sarah McGinnis was working on the manuscript on organized crime and the title was the Club. The book featured Alexander St-Germain, who tried to usher the under-world into new age. After divorce, she and her young son, Sam, moved to New York City, partly because of research work she needed to do for her new book. Sarah wanted to study the videotapes and worked with Stef. They tried to solve the murderer of the Grave Dancer. Detective Michael Christopher Kupcheck was born in Manhattan, forty-two-years before. Bear Kupcheck was Stef’s partner. Kupcheck was walking above halfway through the tunnel when he was brutally shot by a man. Isiah’s brother was murdered too.

The Midnight Club held a celebration party and dozen exchanges around the world; real estate opportunity had been found in every major city. Alexander St-Germain was completely at ease among the wealthy party-goers. He was blond and handsome but psychopath. It was excited for him to watch someone die, especially a frightened, beautiful woman. Isiah Parker killed the Grave Dancer in elevator of The World Trade Center. Parker forced Alex to insert a needle into his vein. Alex knew that it would give him an overdose and he was going into cardiac arrest. Parker wanted Alex to suffer like his brother, Marcus.
